OK, I have a new hero! International shibori master Glennis Dolce. Damn!!

She was in Nagoya with her man Phil and we got together and she blew my mind, what a wild woman, tie-dye wild woman!

When I get bigger, I wanna be like Glennis! Definitely, a lot for me to learn. Hard worker. Creative volcano.

Now the California at the far end of the tunnel looks a bit closer and clearer…

Warm day to dye—染めにぴったり合うあったかい日

OK, back after disaster.. I was frozen for a while, but I’m back in action.

It’s a warm day. Spring is on it’s way. the wind is blowing from the south today, which is the summer pattern.

This is my dye table, after a much too cold winter. Lots of cups, too many. Winter being cold, dye liquid keeps for long. So I just can’t throw things away, so after a few months, it’s gotten to this. I need to do socks or something else to get rid of it.

That’s a hemp tee with a mandala sticking out to th side there in process. It’s starting out super-yellow. The owner has instructed me to make it not so yellow.

ひさしぶりに戻った、日本は緊急状態になってから。しばらく氷っていったけどもう解けてきて、やる気満々。

今日はあったかく、春が来るぞっ！　風が南から吹いている；春一番！

この写真は仕事場の台です。コップが多い。多すぎる。冬は寒く染料の液体はなかなか悪くならない。だからなかなか捨てれんな。そしてこうなっちゃ。もう靴下を染めったりしてなくさなきゃ！

机の上にあるやつはt-shirt。横に突き出ているのはまんだらでござる。もともと黄色すぎて持ち主は”ちょっと黄色くなくしてちょ”てっ

Dyed up a bunch of bamboo (94%/spandex 6%) sock with green tea/iron mordant and onion skins/alum.

First shot after laundering, next I’ve put like with like. I’ll add a better photo eventually.

何足の竹靴下は緑茶と玉ねぎの皮で染めた。洗濯機から出したら次はどっちがどっちの相手を探さないといかん。

I painted half of the mannequin head….what great fun!!!! I want more mannequins to play with (OK, maybe a little lonely?)!!

Tied it and applied dye today, I will wash it tomorrow (tied) and see if I need to add dye anywhere…

今日は絞って、染料を付けました。明日は洗って（絞ったまま）染料を増やす必要あるかどうか　確かめて。。。

Now it’s tomorrow. I washed it (tied), resoaked in soda ash and redyed it. There it sits on my table, “reacting”.

もう明日になって、洗って（絞ったままで）、もう一回ソーダ灰につけて、もう一回染料もつけた。それで机の上で「反応」しています。

Actually, Ive already opened it and washed it, but I’ve yet to get a photo. I was psyched about how it came out. I’ll post it tomorrow…

実際にはもう開けて洗ってある、でも写真はまだ撮れていない。出来は結構うれしかった。明日写真とって出すわ。

Yesterday, coming back from Gifu, I was stopped at a red light and I looked to my side and there was a little dilapidated “recycle shop” (with a hand-written cardboard sign). So, feeling it was some sort of providence, I pulled over and went in. Inside were piles and piles of old clothes and a rancid smell emmanating from some produce by the door that was being “resold”(It looked as if the owner had gotten this and that, strawberries etc, from some other shop and was trying to resell it as their own place but it was going bad in the process…). The smell turned me around and I got back in my car and ready to leave when I noticed her standing wistfully in a corner.

So, I got back out of my car and went back in and called out for the owner. Out of the back room came a crusty old guy and I offered him 1000 yen for his mannequin, which he accepted. Although, he asked me ,”You’re gonna take it all, right?”

What’d he think I was gonna leave the head or something…?

きのう,岐阜から帰る途中で,赤信号で止まっていて,横を見たら,そこにぼろぼろのリサイクルショップがあった(看板はダンボールの手書き)。

なにかの縁だとなんとなく思って、車を止めてなかへ入りました。中ではたくさんの服が所々に盛り上げた状態のほかに、かなり腐ったフルーツの臭いがすぐに鼻を襲った。玄関の所にはほかの店から購入したとしか思えないイチゴやら菜っ葉を並べて、もう一回売ろうとしているのですが、そのフルーツと野菜はすでにイっちまっとる(臭い!!)。臭くてすぐに帰ろうと思って、車に乗ったら、店の角っこに立っている彼女がいました！

それで車からまた降りて、店に入って主人を呼びました。後ろの部屋からちょっと枯れぎみのおじいちゃんが出て来て、1000 yen で売ってちょうだいてお願いしたら、そうしてくれました。ただ、「ぜんぶ持って行くでしょ？！」と訊いた。

頭だけ置いて行くと思っていたかな。。。。？
